The importance of being green.
Waste is New York City’s major export product. And the South Bronx is choking on it. Creating industries that recover valuable materials from waste preserves natural resources, avoids the need to dump New York City waste on other communities, and reduces pollution.
Apart from waste, the South Bronx is also home to other polluting industries, land uses, and practices that endanger the health of our communities. Fossil fuel burning power plants and boilers; a dense network of highways; congested diesel truck traffic; and toxic building materials all threaten the health of our community and call out for alternatives.
